Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in North Ridgeville public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Sugar Ridge Road sidewalk/path project opposition
Roughly a dozen Sugar Ridge Road residents opposed the project's 10-foot asphalt path through front yards and the road being built to handle heavy trucks, citing privacy, trees, drainage and falling home values. Petitions with 79 and 72 signatures were submitted. City officials say no plans are final and comments are open through November 27.
Center Ridge Road widening overage invoice
ODOT billed the city $3.6 million in engineering and contractor overruns on the Center Ridge widening project — mostly caused by Windstream's slow utility relocation. The city has $2.7 million set aside and is being asked for another $923,000, and officials expect to fight it, possibly in court.
2026 Infrastructure and Equipment Bids
Emergency spending covers fixing a vehicle-fire-damaged street with insurance money, buying service garage repair parts, and replacing failing fuel tanks at the fire station.
Sugar Ridge and Bender Road roundabout
Council approved applying for state funding for the roundabout 5-2, with Swenk voting no because she opposes the project itself. Resident Albert Krage questioned spending over $700,000 when a caution light or signage might do the job.
Full-depth road project delayed
Chaucer and Westfield are done; the east end of Bagley Road is next starting June 17, and state money is in hand for repaving Mills Road, possibly jointly with Avon.
North-south roadway connectivity and emergency response times
The project would connect Waterbury Boulevard to the Route 83 roundabout, creating a continuous route from Sugar Ridge to Route 10 and cutting emergency response times for neighborhoods east of Waterbury. The police and fire chiefs support it, and council members discussed making the connector a truck route to divert heavy traffic from Sugar Ridge and Center Ridge.
Lorain Road bridge maintenance grant
The city landed a $739,000 ODOT grant for its biggest bridge — the 300-foot Lorain Road span over the Norfolk Southern tracks. Work includes fencing, curbs, joints, and possibly slabs and guardrails.
